Rev.Harlan "Frank" Showers, our interim pastor was born in Danville, Pa. and grew up in New Berlin, Pa. He attended Mifflinburg School and graduated from there in 1966. He holds a B.A. degree in church music from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa. where he graduated in 1970. His Master of Divinity degree was obtained from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in Hyde Park. He was ordained June 23, 1974 into the pastoral ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Since then he has served in the following parishes: Lebanon Lutheran Church, Hegewisch, Chicago (1974-1980); St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Logan Square, Chicago (1980-1991); Church of the Savior, Lutheran, Williamsport, Pa. (1991-2009); St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Williamsport, Pa. (2003-2009). He is also a spiritual director or spiritual counselor for pastors and seminary students. He trained with the Haden Institute (2005-2007) ,which emphasizes the Jungian and mystical interfaith traditions and the relation between spirituality and dreams. He was trained in the leading of retreats and contemplative prayer groups by the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation (1992-1993).He writes an internet devotional called "The Lily Pad: Notes on Resurrected Living."
